Point to Jesus

Series: Acts: Church on the Move

Summary

Sermon Title: Point to Jesus
Series: Acts: The Church on the Move
Text: Acts 2:14–41
Date: September 14, 2025

Main Idea: We are all called to courageously point people to Jesus.

I. Pointing people to Jesus includes confronting misconceptions and opposing views.

  • Acts 2:14–15 – Peter corrects the false accusation that the disciples were drunk.

  • Evangelism is often uncomfortable because it involves truth: sin, judgment, and exclusivity of Christ.

  • Key Scriptures:

    • Romans 3:23; Romans 6:23a – Sin and its consequences.

    • John 14:6; Acts 4:12; 1 Timothy 2:5; John 3:36 – Jesus is the only way.

    • Luke 13:3 – The call to repentance.

    • Ephesians 2:8–9 – Salvation is by grace through faith.

  • Confrontation is necessary, but it must be full of truth, grace, and mercy.

II. Pointing people to Jesus includes taking them to His Word.

  • Acts 2:16–21 – Peter explains the events of Pentecost through Joel’s prophecy.

  • Scripture is our authority and the source of truth.

  • Key Scriptures:

    • 2 Timothy 3:16–17 – God’s Word equips us for every good work.

    • Hebrews 4:12–14 – The Word is living and active.

  • Practical tool: Romans Road (Rom. 3:23; 6:23; 5:8; 10:9–10; 10:13).

III. Pointing people to Jesus includes pointing out His mighty works.

  • Acts 2:22–28 – Peter highlights the miracles of Jesus, His death, and resurrection.

  • Peter references David’s prophecy (Psalm 16:8–11; Psalm 110:1) fulfilled in Christ.

  • Our personal testimonies are powerful reminders of Christ’s mighty work today.

IV. Pointing people to Jesus includes giving them their next steps.

  • Acts 2:36–41 – Peter calls the people to repent and be baptized.

  • Repentance = turning from sin to align with God’s ways.

  • Baptism = public declaration of faith.

  • Result: About 3,000 people were saved that day.

Conclusion:
When pointing people to Jesus, we must:

  1. Confront misconceptions and opposition.

  2. Take people to the authority of God’s Word.

  3. Highlight the mighty works of Christ.

  4. Give clear next steps of faith.

Great Commission Reminder: Matthew 28:18–20 – Jesus calls us to make disciples, baptize, and teach, with His authority and presence.
