God is Sovereign and in Control
Series: Acts: Church on the Move
Summary
God Is Sovereign and in Control
Acts: The Church on the Move
Text: Acts 12:6–25
Main Idea: Because God is sovereign and in control, we can trust Him in every circumstance.
I. God PROTECTS According to His Purposes
Acts 12:6
Peter was imprisoned, chained between soldiers, guarded heavily—yet under God’s sovereign protection.
A. Peter Was About God’s Business, God’s Way
Peter was serving faithfully and obediently.
We must be about God’s business—and do it God’s way.
B. A Warning Example
Moses struck the rock instead of speaking to it and was not permitted to enter the Promised Land. Obedience matters.
C. Obedience Does Not Eliminate Difficulty
Peter’s obedience led him into a seemingly hopeless situation.
D. Application
If you find yourself in difficulty, ask:
-
Am I about the Father’s business?
-
Am I doing things His way?
If not—repent and realign.
If yes—trust Him for protection.
E. Surrender
Are you surrendered to the will of God and content for your life to be used for His glory?
F. Illustration: The “Iron Dome”
People in Israel feel protected by the Iron Dome defense system.
We rest in something greater—God’s sovereign protection.

II. God PROVIDES for His Children
Acts 12:7–11
God not only protected Peter—He provided a way out.
A. God Provided Rescue
An angel awakened Peter, chains fell off, and prison doors opened.
B. Peter Was Sleeping
Peter’s deliverance had nothing to do with his own strength or ability.
God’s provision is an act of grace.

The church rejoiced at God’s provision.

A. God Does Not Share His Glory
Herod accepted praise that belonged to God alone.
B. God Is Just
He will not allow the mistreatment of His children to go unaddressed.
C. A Biblical Reminder
Deuteronomy 32:43 — God will avenge His people.
D. Peter Learned Restraint
The same Peter who once cut off a soldier’s ear had learned to trust God with justice.
E. Herod’s Warning
Never accept the glory that belongs to God alone.
F. Application
-
Give glory to God alone—do not seek your own.

Conclusion
God has a plan and invites us to join Him in it. It will not always be easy—in fact, it may be very difficult—but He can be trusted in every circumstance.
Pray and surrender your circumstances to Him.
