Recharge

Series: Acts: Church on the Move

Summary

Sermon Notes: “Recharge”

Series: Acts: The Church on the Move
Text: Acts 4:23–31
Date: October 19, 2025

Main Idea: In seasons of trial and tribulation, we need to take appropriate steps to recharge.

I. In seasons of trials and tribulations, retreat to your church family.

Acts 4:23 — “When they were released, they went to their friends and reported what the chief priests and the elders had said to them.”

A. After being imprisoned, questioned, and threatened, Peter and John knew where to go — to their fellow believers for strength and encouragement.
B. Scripture reminds us of the value of fellowship:

  • 1 Thessalonians 5:11 — “Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.”

  • Galatians 6:2 — “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”

  • Romans 12:9–10 — “Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.”

  • Hebrews 10:24–25 — “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”

  • Ecclesiastes 4:9–12 — “Two are better than one… a threefold cord is not quickly broken.”
    C. Studies confirm what Scripture has long taught — church involvement strengthens emotional, spiritual, and even physical health.
    D. Yet many treat church as optional. It’s time to re-center our priorities and return to the community God designed for our growth.

II. In seasons of trials and tribulations, pray with your church family.

Acts 4:24–30 — “And when they heard it, they lifted their voices together to God and said, ‘Sovereign Lord, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and everything in them…’”

A. The early believers’ first instinct was to pray together.
B. They began with praise — “Sovereign Lord, who made the heaven and the earth…”
C. They prayed Scripture, quoting Psalm 2:1–2 — “Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain?”
D. They then prayed with purpose — “Lord, look upon their threats and grant your servants to continue to speak your word with all boldness.”
E. This mirrors the rhythm of Lectio Divina: read, reflect, respond, rest.
F. When we face trials, we should likewise gather and pray with one voice for God’s power and courage.

III. In seasons of trials and tribulations, God will give you everything you need.

Acts 4:31 — “And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak the word of God with boldness.”

A. God didn’t remove their threats; He strengthened their resolve.
B. The filling of the Holy Spirit empowered them again for gospel boldness.
C. 1 John 5:14–15 — “If we ask anything according to His will, He hears us…”
D. When we pray for God’s kingdom rather than our comfort, we display true faith.
E. Jesus said:
Matthew 6:25–34 — “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
F. God doesn’t always change our circumstances — He changes us through them.

Conclusion

When trials come, retreat to your church family, pray with them, and trust God to supply the strength you need.

Romans 8:28–30 — “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good…”
Like Peter and John, we recharge in His presence, and then rise again to speak the Word of God with boldness.
