Our Story

In 1979 a core group of 40 adults and children came together with a vision for a church in Mansfield, Ohio that was full of grace and truth. A church where all were welcome, regardless of their story, and where the truth of the gospel and the Word of God was central. 

It was not long before God led them to their first pastor, Dave Pound. For over 30 years Pastor Dave led and shepherded Berean through an amazing season of growth. We embraced the name "Berean," a nod to those early followers of Jesus in Berea who "received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily" (Acts 17:11). 

God has used this community of Christ followers over the last 40 years to send dozens of missionaries, plant three churches, and see thousands of lives changed through the gospel of Jesus Christ. In 2020, Pastor Dan Krause assumed leadership and even in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic has led Berean into a new season of growth and vision. The founding emphasis on both grace and truth ring truer than ever and are reflected in our mission statement:

We exist to be a community of Christ followers who are enjoying God together, growing in grace and truth, and taking life in Christ to the heart of Ohio and beyond.
