1. Tell us a little about yourself? Where are you from?
I primarily grow up in Bellville as the oldest of the Leach crew J. In 2014 I moved to Chicago to pursue my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and graduated in 2018. Since then, I have been teaching 1st grade at Pui Tak Christian School in Chicago’s Chinatown neighborhood. My heartbeat is 100% for Urban ministry and it has been an absolute blessing to work in such a God centered school! Especially since the majority of our students come from Buddhist and unchurched families. After finishing my undergrad I felt God calling me to pursue more education to become equipped to write Bible curriculum for schools and churches, so I started my Master’s in Spiritual Formation and Discipleship and will graduate this December (2020).
2. What is your connection to Berean? Involvement in Church/SURGE?
I basically grew up at Berean! My family started attending when I was 7 and I really grew into a relationship with the Lord as I grew through Children’s Ministry and Surge.
3. Why this internship?
I have not done traditional church ministry full-time and I wanted to try it out! (Having summers “off” as a teacher totally allows it too!). I love that I get to come back to Berean as a ministry leader and work in the Kid’s ministry at a deeper capacity.
4. What is your life verse and why? (or a verse that is important to you)
I don’t have a life verse- I have a life passage. II Corinthians 5:7-18 (the passage that talks about having Treasures in Jars of Clay) has been the passage that God has brought me back continually in the last 7 years. Particularly verses 17-18 where it talks about this world and its’ problems being temporal. In all things, God has taught (and continues to teach) me that the hard, sad, and heart wrenching parts of this broken and sin-filled world are just a small part of God’s greater story and brings me back to seeing His goodness.
5. Where do you see yourself in five years?
I see myself basically in the same place I am now J. I love working in Urban ministry, the school community I am a part of at Pui Tak, and my church family at Immanuel Anglican in Chicago. I know that I’ll be serving God in full-time ministry no matter what happens in the coming years. Oh, and I’ll be married to Alex, so that’s cool.
6. How can the church pray for you?
I would ask just that the church pray for opportunities to learn and grow as I go through this internship! And that I would be able to balance working for the church and finishing the (elementary) school year well!
